This area is for information and resources of interest to our members.

Below are a number of resources available to download. The most recent documents are shown also on the right.

The Dales Way Association was established in 1991 by a small group of individuals, reflecting user group and tourism interests along the Dales Way. It has over 350 Members, a number of these are owners of guest house, inn, farmhouse and bed and breakfast accommodation along the route, together with a number who provide services such as baggage transfer, accommodation booking etc. The remainder are individual walkers.

Membership is open to all who have walked, or plan to walk, the Dales Way or simply care about its future. The annual AGM occurs in the Dales each year. Ordinary Committee meetings are held every two to three months throughout the year.

The very first published document about The Dales Way was produced in May 1969 by the West Riding branch of the Ramblers Association.  It was written and typed by Colin Speakman, with a good deal of input from Tom Wilcock. The cover map was designed by Fred Andrews. Several hundred copies were produced on a gestetner printer and sold for 1 shilling!

This first account of the new Dales Way path makes fascinating reading. We have scanned a copy and present it here for download, either as a scan of the original, or as a transcript of the text.
